Historically, coarse rejects (10-75mm) from the dense media drum plant were combined with fine rejects (0.6-10mm) from the dense media cyclone plant and stockpiled via conveyors. During the life of the operations to date a significant stockpile of combined rejects material had accumulated. The rejects still contain a significant quantity of manganese, approx 20-25% and this manganese was shown to be economically recoverable. The aim of the secondary processing plant was to recover the manganese from the coarse rejects and the reclaimed waste stockpile material.

Key features of the Secondary Process Plant are:

• A conveyor system to transfer rejects from the existing Drum Plant to a new Crushing & Screening Structure. The structure comprises two crushers and two screens, paired in a primary and secondary arrangement. The crushers are Ecoman Toothed Roll units, with two 650mm diameter rolls 2.8m wide;

• A dump hopper, feeder and conveyor to reclaim the existing combined rejects stockpile into the new circuit;

• A DMS feed bin, feeder, pulping box and transfer pump and associated building and infrastructure;

• A DMS plant (cyclone plant), 150tph nominal capacity;

• A product transfer conveyor and stacker;

• A new waste transfer conveyor to move DMS waste onto a new waste disposal conveyor and stacker;

• A waste disposal conveyor and stacker to transfer rejects from the existing Cyclone Plant (and from the new DMS Plant) to a new waste stockpile;

• Upgrading of the existing Drum Screen to allow increased throughput and FeSi recovery in the Drum Plant; • Installation of all electrical and PLC equipment required for the new plants;

• Installation of additional power generation as required for the new plants;

• Installation of all bulk earthworks and civil works required for the above equipment; • Installation of additional piping for water, tails and effluent transfer and return.
